Being one of Santa’s elves isn’t all sugar plums and candy canes.

At least not for Sosie. Excerpt:

By the time the party wound down a few hours later, Sosie was more aroused from her fantasies than she’d ever been in her life. She was an elf in lust and nothing was going stop her from getting Derek into bed with her tonight. She didn’t care how much of a gentleman he was, there was no way he was sleeping on the couch again. In fact, if she had her way, he wasn’t going to be sleeping at all.

After they got back up to his apartment, however, her confidence faltered. But then she thought of the frustrated night she would assuredly have ahead of her if she didn’t proposition Derek, and how much she would regret it when she left.

Taking a deep breath, she turned to face him. “I had a great time at the party. It was very nice of you to invite me.”

He grinned. “I’m glad you came. I had a good time, too.”

Sosie nibbled on her lower lip. Okay, it was now or not at all. Time to be a bold elf. She looked up at him. “You know, I feel awful about putting you out of your bed again. I was thinking maybe you might want to sleep with me tonight.”

He studied her in silence, his dark eyes unreadable. Sosie held her breath as she waited for him to say something. What if Tracee and Linda had been wrong? What if Derek wasn’t as “into her” as they’d thought?

“If I share the bed with you, Sosie,” he said softly, “sleeping is the last thing either of us will be doing.”

She gave him what she hoped was a flirtatious look. “Good. Then the mistletoe won’t go to waste.”

His mouth curved into a grin at the tiny sprig of greenery dangling from her fingers. “Mistletoe, huh?”

“I thought I could put it wherever I want you to kiss me.”

He chuckled. “Honey, you don’t need mistletoe for that. I’ve spent the past two hours fantasizing about kissing every inch of you.”

Her pulse skipped a beat. “You have?”

“Uh-huh.”

Cupping her face in his hand, he bent his head to cover her mouth with his. This time, there was no hesitancy in the kiss. Sosie flipped through the magazine on her lap with a bored sigh. It was an old copy of Working Elf someone had wedged in the seat pocket in front of her, so she’d already read most of the articles. Even so, she paused when she came to an article on which products were going to be a big hit for the holiday season. It would have been more interesting if she hadn’t spent the last four months up to her elbows in the exact same gadgets and gizmos the author claimed were so wonderful. After making three thousand copies of anything by hand—even the Happy Rabbit Clitoris Vibrator she’d helped design—the thrill was gone.

No one ever volunteered to go to the South Pole. It was where elves went when they got on Santa’s bad side. She’d had to do something, or she was going to go crazy, and leaving the North Pole for a change of scenery, even if that scenery did happen to be in the armpit of the elfin world, seemed like the only way to stop her from going insane.

Shorter than he was by more than a foot, she barely came up to his chest even with the little heels on the black boots that went with her costume. He could see why the people who did the hiring down at whatever department store she worked in picked her. With her small, slightly upturned nose and creamy skin, she looked exactly as he imagined an elf would look. Although he had to admit, he didn’t picture an elf having quite so many sexy curves.

She hugged herself and looked up at the roof across the street, wondering if she should go up there and wait. At some point, one of her fellow elves was bound to notice she wasn’t with them and they would come back for her like the handsome man from the club had said. But the longer she stood there, the less likely she began to think that was going to happen. For all she knew, they’d realized she had gone off somewhere and purposely left her. Not because they didn’t care, but because it was too dangerous to venture into the city to look for her. They had probably already reported the whole thing to Elf Central. The Special Forces elves were most likely getting ready to mount a rescue mission even now.

That should have made her feel better, but instead it only made her more nervous. She’d never heard of an elf getting lost. Just because they set out to rescue her didn’t mean they would find her right away. She would have to fend for herself until they did. That was easier said than done. Going into a dance hall for a few minutes was one thing. Living in a BP city for an extended length of time was definitely another.

She glanced over at the line of people waiting to get into the club. She wasn’t a Special Forces elf. She had no training on how to survive on her own for long periods of time outside the North Pole. It was true she’d learned about how the BPs lived, worked and played when she’d been in school. In addition to that, there was all the research she’d done as part of her job as a toy designer. And of course, she had seen plenty of stuff on The Polar Evening News. But all that was a far cry from actually knowing how to live among them while keeping her identity secret.

To her surprise, almost everyone in the waiting area got on the same subway she and Derek did. She automatically looked around for a seat, but they were all taken. She was about to ask Derek if they were going to have to get off and wait for another subway when the thing suddenly sped forward. She stumbled and would have fallen if a strong arm hadn’t wrapped around her waist. Startled, she looked up to find Derek gazing down at her.

“You okay?” he asked.

Sosie opened her mouth to tell him she was, but all that came out was a gasp. She had already come to the conclusion he was well built from how broad his shoulders were underneath the leather jacket, but she hadn’t known how hard his body was beneath all those clothes. Snickerdoodle, the man was as solid as a chimney.

Sosie was disappointed, but she supposed she could see his point. She wouldn’t get any sleep at all if she was in such close proximity to that hard body of his. Not that she would have minded. She might be sleep-deprived when morning came, but she was sure sleeping next to him would be more fun than a snowball fight.

“Do you need a shirt or something to sleep in?”

She shook her head. “No, thanks. I sleep naked.” At his raised brow, she blushed and quickly added, “But since I’m a guest, maybe it would be better to wear a shirt.”

He nodded. “Much.”

Sosie nibbled on her lower lip as he opened a dresser drawer and pulled out a shirt. She hadn’t meant to make him uncomfortable. Perhaps she shouldn’t mention being naked around him again since it seemed to cause him concern.

Wondering if Derek was asleep yet, she tiptoed down the hallway and peeked into the living room. She’d intended to thank Derek one more time for his hospitality, but the words got stuck in her throat at the sight of him. Wondering if Derek did, too, she looked up to find him gazing down at her with that same sexy glint he’d had in his eye when he leaned in to smell her perfume before. Her pulse quickened and she wet her lips in anticipation.

But to her dismay, Derek didn’t move to kiss her. Maybe he didn’t know the tradition, after all.

“Well, what are you waiting for?” Tracee said impatiently. “Go ahead and kiss her already.”

He chuckled. “They’re not going to be satisfied unless I kiss you, you know.”

She smiled. “Then I suppose you’d better kiss me.”

Derek hadn’t been to FAO Schwartz since he was a kid, but he got the feeling Sosie would love the place. He was right. That was when she saw the strap hanging over the side of the bed. It was some kind of restraint system, she realized as Gavin secured her other wrist to the opposite side of the bed. She gave that one a tug, too, but it was just as tightly bound as the other.

“Spread your legs,” he said softly.

Josie was so busy thinking about the restraints on her wrist, she didn’t realize Gavin had come around the bed to stand in back of her. Afraid he would think she’d forgotten her place already, she quickly spread her legs. NEW RELEASE - SANTA'S WAYWARD ELF!

I love writing holiday romances, especially Christmas-themed ones, but when my hubby (who is also my writing partner!) suggested we write a story about one of Santa's Elves, I was like, "You're kidding, right?" Silly of me, actually. I mean, we pulled off a zombie romance in DEAD SEXY, which turned out to be an EPIC Award Finalist, by the way. Hubby still had to do some convincing, but he did it, and as we outlined the story, I completely fell in love with the heroine Sosie, a guileless elf who doesn't fit in up at the North Pole and ends up stranded in NYC on Christmas Eve where she meets and falls head over heels for a hunky cop. I think you'll fall in love with her, too!

Being one of Santa’s elves isn’t all sugar plums and candy canes.

At least not for Sosie. Taller than the other elves, she’s always had a problem fitting in at the North Pole, so when the transport sled she’s on breaks down in New York City on Christmas Eve, she can’t resist slipping away to explore the world of the “big people.” While she’s having fun, the transport sled takes off, leaving the naïve elf stranded.

Fortunately, handsome police detective Derek Clayton comes to her rescue, offering to let her stay at his apartment. Having heard horror stories about the big people, Sosie is both surprised and relieved to meet such a kind, sweet man. Not to mention one so gorgeous and well-built.

Even though Sosie expects the North Pole to send out a search party any day, she finds herself falling for Derek. She desperately wants to tell him she’s an elf, but knows he’ll never believe her. When the lies and omissions start to pile up, Derek can draw only one conclusion—Sosie is working for the mob boss he’s been after for years.

Just when things seem like they can’t get any worse, the chief of elfin security shows up to drag Sosie back to the North Pole. How is a runaway elf supposed to overcome a determined security elf, dangerous mobsters and a suspicious boyfriend all while keeping her pointed ears a secret?

Excerpt:

By the time the party wound down a few hours later, Sosie was more aroused from her fantasies than she’d ever been in her life. She was an elf in lust and nothing was going stop her from getting Derek into bed with her tonight. She didn’t care how much of a gentleman he was, there was no way he was sleeping on the couch again. In fact, if she had her way, he wasn’t going to be sleeping at all.

After they got back up to his apartment, however, her confidence faltered. But then she thought of the frustrated night she would assuredly have ahead of her if she didn’t proposition Derek, and how much she would regret it when she left.

Taking a deep breath, she turned to face him. “I had a great time at the party. It was very nice of you to invite me.”

He grinned. “I’m glad you came. I had a good time, too.”

Sosie nibbled on her lower lip. Okay, it was now or not at all. Time to be a bold elf. She looked up at him. “You know, I feel awful about putting you out of your bed again. I was thinking maybe you might want to sleep with me tonight.”

He studied her in silence, his dark eyes unreadable. Sosie held her breath as she waited for him to say something. What if Tracee and Linda had been wrong? What if Derek wasn’t as “into her” as they’d thought?

“If I share the bed with you, Sosie,” he said softly, “sleeping is the last thing either of us will be doing.”

She gave him what she hoped was a flirtatious look. “Good. Then the mistletoe won’t go to waste.”

His mouth curved into a grin at the tiny sprig of greenery dangling from her fingers. “Mistletoe, huh?”

“I thought I could put it wherever I want you to kiss me.”

He chuckled. “Honey, you don’t need mistletoe for that. I’ve spent the past two hours fantasizing about kissing every inch of you.”

Her pulse skipped a beat. “You have?”

“Uh-huh.”

Cupping her face in his hand, he bent his head to cover her mouth with his. This time, there was no hesitancy in the kiss. With a groan, Derek swung her up in his arms and strode toward the bedroom. She’d never had a guy do something so romantic before—mainly because she was always taller than the elf guys she’d slept with—but she decided it was very hot.

Once beside the bed, Derek set her on the floor, letting her slide slowly and deliciously down his body. Arms still looped around his neck, she pulled him down for another kiss. This time, she was the aggressor, her tongue seeking his and exploring every inch of his tasty mouth.

RomantiCon totally rocked! It helped that I wasn't as nervous as I was the first time! As you can tell from all the pics I took with my favorite Caveman, Angelo! LOL! It was so awesome seeing everyone again, and meeting new people!

It was also nice getting there earlier on Thursday so we could go to the Meet n Greet that night. Though it was freezing in the room, the Caveman (and my hubby!) warmed it up for me soon enough. I ran around finding everyone I knew so I could say hi. And get pics, of course. I love pictures. I mean, I really, really love pictures. In fact, we took over a hundred while we were there!

I absolutely loved that there were two costume parties, too! I'm always so excited to see how everyone is dressed! I say we do that again! Who's with me?!

For the first party, we were transported back to the stone age. Which seems appropriate since there were Cavemen in attendance, don't you think? LOL! As you can imagine, the Cavemen were wearing loin cloths and not much else! They gave two performances, which were super hot, then got together for a group pic outside the ballroom. Unlike last time, I wasn't too shy to take pics with them, as you can see on my Facebook page! Very fun!

The next day, we had lunch with my editor, which was a riot! Then that night was the Fururistic/Steampunk party and awards dinner. We dressed steampunk, a look I could totally go for! The Caveman came out dressed as Jedi's, and I gotta say, I never thought of Jedi's being sexy until I saw them! Cosmopolitan had an article about "99 New Sexy Facts" (though I don't know why they didn't make it an even hundred) so I thought I'd share some of them with you.

It didn’t occur to her the words could be interpreted two ways until they were out of her mouth. He might think she wanted him to give her the same show by touching himself.

Though Cindra spent most of her time alternating between watching the door and glancing at her watch, occasionally her gaze drifted over to the sex shows. While each of them was intriguing in its own way, she found her gaze repeatedly drawn to the stage closest to their table.

The man gave up trying to yank the door closed and shook his head. “Yeah, I’ve been here all day, so I’d know if there was a meeting, and no, there wasn’t. If you have a meeting with someone, it’s after we open. Come back then.”

Bladen held up a credit note. “Thanks, I appreciate it.”

The note was folded up so tightly Cindra couldn’t tell the denomination but the man didn’t seem to care. He quickly reached out and palmed it.

“No problem,” he said.

Now that Bladen had released his hold on the door, the man was about to close it but stopped to look them up and down. “If you come back tonight, you might want to make sure you’re dressed in the proper attire.”

“What kind of attire is that?” Cindra asked.

He gave her an amused look then pointed at the name of the club above the door. “You look like a smart girl. I think you can figure it out.”
Before Cindra could reply, the man shut the door. Wonder what the hell that meant.

“What now?” she asked Bladen.

“We come back tonight. In the proper attire.”

She made a face. “Whatever that is.”

“Something befitting a Dom and his submissive, I’d imagine.”

Her eyes went wide at that. So that was what the stocky man had meant. Suddenly the name of the club made a lot more sense. Why hadn’t she figured that out?

“This place is probably going to be a little kinkier than the other clubs we’ve gone to,” Bladen said. “You okay with that?”

Cindra frowned. What was it with him all of a sudden? Up until now, they’d gone into one sleazy place after another. Why should this be any different?
“I’ve chased DelCour to half the strip joints and bordellos in the galaxy,” she said. “Trust me. There’s nothing in there that’s going to shock me.”

“Okay, just wanted to make sure. You’ll have no problem being my submissive for the night then?”

To complete the outfit, she added a leather choker with a small heart-shaped padlock on it that dangled in the hollow of her throat. It might have been a bit over the top but she couldn’t resist.

Bladen didn’t seem to think the accessory was over the top. He brushed the charm with his finger. “Nice touch. Too bad I don’t have the key to go with it.”

Cindra caught her lower lip between her teeth again. What was she going to do? But there was no way in hell she was giving the bounty hunter forty-nine percent. She’d spent practically every credit to her name plus what money her father had left to her hunting DelCour. She needed the bounty so she could finish her graduate program. It was the one thing her father had wanted and she wasn’t going to let him down. But she wasn’t going to let his murderer get away, either. She’d simply have to convince Sloan to take less, or offer him something else instead. But what?

She wasn’t as shocked by the answer as she should have been. She’d never been a prude, but she didn’t make a habit of indiscriminately sleeping with guys, either. Her father had always said a bounty hunter did whatever it took to get the job done. She needed to decide right now if she was willing to sleep with Bladen Sloan if it meant bringing down DelCour. Back at the restaurant, she as much as admitted to herself she thought the other bounty hunter was hot. If he was half as good in bed as she thought he might be, having sex with him wouldn’t be an arduous task, that was for sure. Heat was already pooling between her thighs at the delicious prospect. Still, this was one hell of a big step. She didn’t normally proposition men quite this blatantly. Heck, she was practically prostituting herself. Was she really willing to go there? The answer to that was a resounding yes. She would do whatever it took to catch her father’s murderer, and that included sleeping with Bladen Sloan.

She wet her lips. “If we can’t agree on splitting the bounty, perhaps we could work something else out.”

He arched a questioning brow. “What are you suggesting?”

Cindra lifted her chin to meet his gaze. “If you help me track down DelCour, I’ll sleep with you.”

A mix of surprise and intrigue appeared in his amber eyes. She had him, she could tell.

“You’ll sleep with me?”

She gave him her sexiest smile. “That’s what I said.”

He was silent as he considered her words. “While the offer is extremely tempting, Ms. Mallory, I’m afraid I have to refuse.”

She frowned, taken aback. From the way he’d looked at her when she came into the office, she’d been sure he would go for it. “Why?”

Most men wouldn’t turn down an offer like that unless they were gay, married or in a committed relationship, and she wasn’t convinced guys in the last two categories would refuse even then. Intuition told her Sloan wasn’t gay, and since she didn’t see a ring on his finger she assumed he wasn’t married. Which left only one other explanation. Maybe he wasn’t comfortable with something mighty damn close to prostitution.

Damn, she hadn’t considered he might have a problem with that. She’d thought he would be…well…a typical guy.

He gave her a rueful smile. “Because if I took you up on it, I’d feel like I was taking advantage of you.”

Okay, so she had been right about the reason behind his refusal. Great. Not only was Sloan sinfully gorgeous, but he had a conscience, too. Normally, that would have been an attractive quality in a man, but right now it was annoying as hell. She needed help and the only thing she had to offer was her body. She was going to have to convince him to have sex with her. What was the galaxy coming to?

She smiled. “You wouldn’t be taking advantage of me, I assure you. I know exactly what I’m offering you and I’m willing to do whatever is necessary to get you to help me.”

“So I gather.” He was silent for so long she thought she might have to repeat her offer, but then he spoke. “While I appreciate your tenacity, I’m still going to have to decline.”

Cindra ground her jaw. Damn him, and his conscience.

“Fine,” she snapped, getting to her feet. “I’ll track down DelCour myself.”
Head high, she turned and headed for the door. Behind her, Sloan cursed under his breath.

“Wait a minute,” he ordered.

She hesitated, her hand on the knob, then took a deep breath and turned to face him.

He was standing behind his desk, a look that could almost be called concern in his eyes.

“I didn’t say I wouldn’t help you.”

Her pulse quickened. “Then you’ll accept my offer?”

A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I didn’t say that. Please don’t take this the wrong way. While you’re extremely beautiful, I don’t think a single night of sex would be a fair trade for the nineteen percent difference in the bounty, do you? I mean, we’re talking at least ten-thousand credits I’d be giving up.”

Cindra felt color rush to her cheeks. While she knew she should be insulted, she couldn’t help but admire his negotiating skills. Luckily, hers weren’t too shabby either. Especially in conjunction with the feminine wiles in her arsenal.

She crossed the room to stand in front of his desk, adding a little extra sway to her hips. “Then I’ll sleep with you more than once.” She looked at him from beneath lowered lashes. “Is there a particular number you have in mind?”

She could tell from the way his eyes went wide that she’d caught him off guard. Good. That put her firmly back in charge of the negotiations.

“I don’t want to offend you any more by trying to figure out what your going rate would be,” he said. “But even if I give you the benefit of the doubt and say a single night of sex with you is worth a thousand credits, that would still mean you’d owe me…”

“Ten nights of unbelievable sex,” she finished for him. “Deal.”

Sloan’s eyes narrowed. Clearly, he hadn’t expected her to call his bluff. “Let me make sure I understand this. In exchange for my help, you’re agreeing to provide me with ten nights of sex, of my design, and at the time of my choosing?”

Cindra was a little worried by the way he’d worded it, but she gave him a sultry smile anyway. “That’s exactly what I’m agreeing to.”

Sloan didn’t answer, but she could see the battle raging in his eyes. Finally, he inclined his head. “I’ll draw up a contract and we can make it official.”
She found it hard to believe he was going to put something like that into writing, but she said nothing as he typed the terms of their agreement into the computer. She could only hope he was as thorough when it came to looking for DelCour.

Once Sloan printed the contract, he came around the desk and held it out for her signature. She quickly read it and saw he had simply put their agreement into words. There was something about seeing it on paper that made her blush, and her hand trembled a bit as she signed her name. It wasn’t as if the contract would hold up in any council of law in the galaxy anyway. At least she didn’t think it would.

“So, what do we do first?” she asked, handing the signed contract back to him.

He set the contract on the desk then turned to give her a grin. “You.”

Cindra looked up at him in confusion. “Me?”

Taking her hand, he pulled her gently to her feet. She’d known the other bounty hunter was tall, but now that he was standing so close, she realized how tall he really was. The top of her head didn’t come to his chin. That made him at least six-four. Maybe six-five.

“I think it would only be fair for me to get a partial payment up front, don’t you?” he said softly.

Her pulse quickened as she realized what the bounty hunter meant. He wanted to have sex with her. Right now.

“Here?” she asked, looking around the office. Her pussy purred. The unique situation she found herself in was turning her on like crazy. She couldn’t believe she was doing this.

Bladen released her hand to lightly run the tips of his fingers along her bare arm. The touch of his fingers gliding along her skin sent the most delicious shivers up and down her back. “Why not?”

Maybe it was because she was flustered. She could never think when she was flustered. Then again, maybe it had nothing to with being off her game at all. I loved watching both Teyla and Slayter recognize their feelings and finally come to terms with them.

This author does a wonderful job of bringing the characters in this story to life and making me feel their emotions so strongly. If you enjoy stories with not only great characters but also an engaging plot than this is the book for you. I enjoyed the romance that developed throughout the story, it had me rooting for Slayter and Teyla to find their happily ever after!"
