Thursday Thirteen - THE GIRL WHO CRIED WOLF!

Thirteen Excerpts from my sexy new release THE GIRL WHO CRIED WOLF!

1.

Too bad she didn’t have a cop boyfriend she could call to come check it out. She supposed she’d have to settle for her brother.

But as she picked up her cell phone to call Dylan a brilliant idea came to her. Why not call Reese? It wasn’t like she was drunk dialing. This was a legitimate emergency. Okay, maybe not that legitimate. But it was an emergency. Their relationship was in serious danger here.

2.

Reese devoured her mouth like a starving man, his tongue taking possession of hers with an urgency that made her dizzy. She slid her hand down between their bodies to rub his hard cock through his jeans. Reese tensed, and she cursed herself for moving too fast, but he only swung her up in his arms.

3.

He hooked his fingers in her tiny bikini panties, tugging them down her legs and sending them flying across the room. His face was between her thighs before the scrap pf material even hit the floor.

4.

“Reese, wait! I didn’t make anything up. Why would I do something like that?”

He spun around to face her, his dark eyes glinting. “Oh, I don’t know. Maybe to trick me into coming over here so you could get me into bed.”

Kat felt her face turn red. “Do you even know how stupid that sounds?”

“Actually, it sounds pretty damn clever to me. But then you always did know how to get me to do whatever you wanted.”

She almost laughed. If that were true, she wouldn’t have to resort to this kind of underhanded crap to get him to see reason. “Now, you’re just being a jerk, and I’m not going to stand here and defend myself to you. Next time some strange guy follows me home, I’ll go ahead and invite him in.”

“Don’t be stupid.”

She folded her arms. “First I’m clever, and now I’m stupid. Which is it, Reese? Because if I really had the ability to make you do whatever I wanted, I’d make you see you’re the one who’s being stupid. Regardless of what you say, you want me just as much as I want you—the bed-shaking sex we had in there proves that—and if calling you every time I think someone follows me home is what it’s going to take to get you to admit it, that’s what I’ll do.”

The muscle in his jaw flexed. “No, you won’t, because I’m going to make damn sure you don’t.”

Before Kat could even ask what he meant, Reese grabbed her arm and marched her over to the couch. But instead of plunking her down on one of the cushions and lecturing her like she thought he would, he sat down and gave her arm a tug that sent her tumbling over his knee. She immediately tried to push herself up, but a firm hand shoved her back down.

“Reese, what…”

The rest of what she’d been going to say ended in a gasp as his hand come down hard on her upturned ass. Her eyes went wide. What the hell? Was he actually spanking her? He smacked her again, harder this time. He was spanking her!

5.

Reese regarded her with a sadness she’d never seen before in his dark eyes. “Do you think I don’t wish things could be different? Staying away from you is killing me. But that’s the way it has to be.”

6.

If Reese thought a little spanking was going to stop her from getting what she wanted, he was wrong.

7.

Reese walked through the living room where Kat had her iPod playing, and into the kitchen, only to come to an abrupt halt in the doorway. Kat was leaning over checking something in the oven, her long, shapely legs stretched tight, her ass thrust out invitingly, her cheeks peeking out from her tiny, cotton shorts. He tried to look away, to look at anything other than her perfect ass, but his hardening cock wouldn’t let him. He stood in the doorway gazing at her, completely mesmerized.

8.

Kat walked past the stuffed chair and over to the couch, unfolding the big fleece blanket as she went. When she got close enough, she purposely tripped on the hem, which sent her sprawling across his chest. Reese’s arms went around her automatically to keep her from falling off the couch, which was a good thing because somehow she really had gotten all tangled up in the blanket.

“Sorry about that,” she said breathlessly.

But she really wasn’t sorry at all. Her plan had worked out just like she’d hoped. Not only did it bring her nose to nose with him at the perfect angle for kissing, but it also pressed her breasts against his muscular chest. It was all she could do not to moan when she felt his hard cock pressing into her tummy. She tried to resist the urge to move against him, but her hips seemed to have a mind of their own and she found herself rubbing against his erection.

“That’s it,” Reese growled.

Faster than she would have thought possible, Reese threw back the blanket, then had her back on her feet and over his knee. Remembering what had happened the last time she was in this position, Kat frantically tried to push herself upright, but a firm hand on her back pushed her down.

“Don’t you dare…” she began, only to let out a loud yelp when he delivered a sharp smack to the seat of her panties. She couldn’t believe he was actually spanking her again!

9.

But he could only resist temptation for so long. If Kat continued to stay at his apartment, he knew he would end up making love to her again, and that wouldn’t be fair to either of them. Unfortunately, there was no way Kat could go back to her apartment without her brother knowing, and Dylan wouldn’t let her go back until he was sure it was completely safe. Which meant Kat might be staying at his apartment for a long time. Reese groaned. God, he was so screwed.

10.

Kat hurried into the kitchen to find Reese leaning back against the counter, arms folded and a scowl on his handsome face. She looked around the room, stunned.

Half of the drawers were open, as were most of the cabinets, and though she couldn’t tell for sure, from what she could see, it looked as if someone had rummaged through them.

Her gaze went to Reese. “What happened?”

He regarded her coldly. “You tell me.”

Kat stared at him in confusion. “You think I did this?”

“I know you did.”

She blinked. “You honestly think I broke into your apartment and ransacked it? Reese, the door looks like it was kicked in. There’s no way I could have done that.”

His jaw tightened. “With the right tools, you could. Or maybe you had someone do it for you.”

She gaped at him. “Do you even know how crazy that sounds?”

“It’s no crazier than pretending there was someone following you home from a club and lurking outside your apartment. Well, you wasted your time, Kat, because all this latest stunt of yours did is convinced me that you can’t be trusted. It also earned you another spanking.”

11.

“Didn’t you hear what I said?” she demanded. “Some guy was following me at the mall.”

Reese lowered the heat and turned to look at her, folding his arms across his broad chest. “You really expect me to believe you?”

“Yes, I do, because it’s the truth.”

He snorted. “Just like you were telling me the truth when you said someone followed you home from the club the other night. Or when you told me that someone had tried to break into your apartment.”

She flushed.

“Aren’t you going to deny it?” he asked.

She didn’t answer.

“I thought so. God, I must be the most stupid man on the planet.”

“Okay,” she snapped. “I made up that stuff about someone following me home from the club and trying to break into my apartment. But I wasn’t lying when I told you that I didn’t ransack your apartment, and I’m not lying about this. Some guy followed me through the mall parking garage. If I didn’t run into this nice older man, I don’t know what would have happened.”

Reese regarded her silently for a moment, as if trying to determine whether she was lying or not. “Did you get a look at the guy?”

Kat shook her head. “I didn’t see him. I just heard him following me.”

Reese gave her a sardonic smile. “Of course.”

She lifted her chin. “Just because I didn’t see the guy doesn’t mean I wasn’t followed.”

“God, you’re so transparent.” Reese sighed. “Just drop the charade and admit you’re making this up like everything else.”

“I’m not making it up, dammit. Why can’t you believe me?”

“Because that’s what happens when you cry wolf one too many times. People stop believing you.”

12.

Reese and Dylan were standing by one of those white boards they wrote all the stuff on about whatever case they were working on at the time. She marched across the room.

“I hope you’re satisfied,” she said to Reese. “That guy who was following me last night came after me again, and this time he tried running me off the road.”

She wasn’t sure it was the same guy, but it didn’t make sense that it wasn’t. How many psychos could be after her?

Concern flashed across Reese’s face, but she rushed on before he could say anything. “Oh, but wait, maybe I’m making this up, too. Just like I made up that story about some guy following me at the mall last night.” Around them, the other inspectors were staring, but she didn’t care. Tears stung her eyes and she blinked them back. “Maybe I backed my car into a wall a few times to make it look like someone rammed me, just like I made it look like someone had broken into your apartment.”

Dylan frowned. “Some guy followed you, and you didn’t tell me?” He pinned his partner with a look. “And what does she mean, you thought she made it up? Why the hell would Kat make up something like that?”

Reese’s jaw tightened and for a moment he didn’t say anything. “It’s complicated.”

“What the hell does that mean?” Dylan demanded.

Kat waited for Reese to answer, but he only looked away. Damn him.

“It means that Reese and I have been dating for months,” she said to Dylan. “It means that he broke it off because he’s afraid it violates some stupid bro code. It means he thinks I’ve been pretending to be in danger to trick him into getting back together with me. It means that when I needed him the most, he wasn’t there.”

13.

Kat struggled, clawing and kicking for all she was worth, but it did no good. The man was too strong. He picked her up like she was a toy and carried her hallway down the sidewalk, then threw her in the trunk of a car. She barely got a glimpse of a dark beard and mirrored sunglasses before he slammed the lid closed, plunging her into darkness.

I'd make a nasty comment on the cliffhanger of number 13, but knowing you...there's more to this than your average, mundane kidnapping. Good luck with sales! My T13
