Thursday Thirteen - Excerpts from SADIE AND HER COWBOY!

Thirteen Excerpts from SADIE AND HER COWBOY my sexy new cowboy erotic romance!

1.

He was just passing the general store when the sound of a man calling his name stopped him in his tracks. Jake tightened his grip on the reins. If this was another one of Clarence Cayhill’s relatives out for revenge, they were going to be in for an even ruder awakening than the outlaw’s redheaded brother. He didn’t give a free pass twice in the same day.

But when Jake turned around in the saddle, he saw only the portly, gray-haired telegraph operator running down the street toward him.

“I’m glad I caught you,” he panted, the words barely audible between big gulps of air. “If this had come any later, it would have missed you for sure.”
Hurrying the last few steps, the man held out a sheet of paper.

“Much obliged,” Jake said.

When he got a telegram, it was usually because someone had a job for him to do, so he wasn’t surprised to discover that was what a Miss Sadie Buchanan of Rocky River wanted as well. What did surprise him was how the people looking to hire him always managed to find him so easily.

“Shall I send a reply?” the telegraph operator asked, still breathless.

Jake hesitated only a moment before nodding. “Tell Miss Sadie Buchanan I’ll be at her ranch by the end of the week.”

He hadn’t been headed to Wyoming, but from the sounds of it, Sadie Buchanan was having a hell of a lot of trouble out on her ranch, and he never could resist a damsel in distress.

2.

Jake hadn’t expected Sadie Buchanan to be so young—or so pretty—but the woman sitting behind the desk couldn’t be more than twenty-five. And with that heart-shaped face, those big, blue eyes and pillow-soft lips, she was most definitely a looker. On top of it, she was blonde. He’d always had a hankering for blondes.

3.

Jake Wagner wasn’t at all like Sadie thought he would be. For one thing, he was younger than she’d pictured. And for another, he was more handsome. In fact, his rugged good looks, dark eyes and sinfully delicious voice had just about made it almost impossible to think. He even had that trace of stubble on his jaw she preferred rather than a traditional beard and mustache. She still wasn’t sure how she explained the problems she’d been having with Boone, much less managed to quibble about her new foreman’s fee. She was almost relieved when he’d left with Ned so she could get some work done.

But while her pulse might flutter at the sight of his broad shoulders and manly build, Sadie couldn’t help having some misgivings about hiring Jake. For all his polite demeanor, he was still a gunslinger, and she wasn’t sure she trusted him.

4.

She glared at Jake. “I didn’t pay you all that money in advance so you could come to the saloon and drink it all, you know.”

The good-for-nothing man had the nerve to flash her a grin that was both infuriating and heart-stopping at the same time. “Now, don’t go getting your pantaloons in a bunch, Miss Sadie. I didn’t spend all the money on whiskey.”

His words were only slightly slurred, which was rather amazing considering how much he’d probably drunk. She clenched her jaw. “I didn’t pay you all that money so you could some here and spend it on saloon girls, either. I expect more from my foreman.”
Jake regarded her lazily. “Why don’t you get along back to that ranch of yours and do what you do best, and I’ll stay here and do what I do best?”

She clenched her hands into fists to keep from slapping that smug face of his. “And what exactly do you do best, Mr. Wagner? Get drunk?”

The saloon erupted into laugher around them. Sadie was glad someone was amused.

5.

Her brow furrowed. “How do you do that? Sound drunk one minute, and sober as I am the next?”

“I told you before. I’m not drunk.”

“Really? Then why do you smell like you just took a bath in a tub of whiskey?”

“Because I doused myself in the stuff before I went into the saloon.”

She frowned again. “Why would you do that?”

“So I could get the townsfolk to talk to me.” He shrugged his broad shoulders. “They won’t talk to a stranger, but they’ll sure as hell talk to a drunk.”

Sadie considered the logic of that. She supposed what he said made sense. That didn’t mean she wasn’t still upset with him. “Well, you could have told me, you know.”

“I did. I told you to go back to the ranch.”

“I meant before I went in there and made a fool of myself.”

Jake snorted. “I didn’t know you were going to follow me. I expected you to be at the ranch doing woman’s work.”

Sadie’s eyes narrowed. “Woman’s work? You mean like sewing quilts and washing clothes?”

“Exactly.”

Chauvinist pig. “Because those are the only things a woman can do, right?” She tried to rein in her temper, but it was quickly nearing its boiling point again. “I’ll have you know I’ve been doing a lot more than sewing quilts and washing clothes out at the ranch since my father died, Mr. Wagner.”

“Maybe that’s why you’re in the predicament you’re in.”

The words cut Sadie more deeply than she wanted to admit, maybe because she’d often wondered if she was partly to blame for making the ranch such an easy target. But she’d be damned if she was going to let a gunslinger like Jake Wagner take her to task for it. Before she even realized what she was doing, she lifted her hand and slapped him hard across the face.

The sound of it echoed in the stable, but Sadie barely heard it. Instead, she stood there, shocked by what she’d just done. She’d never hit anyone in her life.
There was no way Jake could have expected her to slap him, and yet he didn’t seem surprised by her show of violence. He did look angry, though. His jaw was clenched so tightly she thought it might crack.

She’d never been one to run from a fight, but the strange glint in his eye made her think it was time to make her escape. Mumbling something about wanting to get back to the ranch before it got dark, Sadie started to back away, but Jake caught her wrist. Without a word, he strode across the enclosure, dragging her with him. The fury she’d felt earlier gave way to fear.

“Wh-what are you doing?” she stammered.

He stopped and turned to face her. “Doing what someone should have done a long time ago.”

Sadie opened her mouth to ask him what in tarnation he was talking about, but all that came out was an “oomph,” as he sat down on a bale of hay and threw her over his knee.

“What—?” she began, but the rest of her words ended in a startled gasp as Jake’s hand came down on her upturned bottom.

The barbarian was spanking her!

6.

Sadie was silent for a moment. “I didn’t realize you came back tonight.”

“You said I could bunk down here until morning, so I did.” His mouth twitched. “Don’t worry. I’ll be off your ranch by first light.”

She ran her hand down the horse’s neck. “I told Ned about what happened in town. He seems to think I was a bit hasty in firing you.”

He arched a brow. “You told Ned I spanked you?”

A rosy blush colored her cheeks. “Of course not! Just that you were at the saloon pretending to be drunk so you could get information on Harlan Boone, and that I misunderstood what I saw.”

Well, damn. Coming from her, that was practically an apology.

She slanted him a sidelong look. “So, will you stay?”

“Do you want me to stay?”

“As long as you promise not to spank me again—yes.”

“Can’t do that.” He folded his arms. “And after running into that burning barn, I’m of a mind to do it again.”

Her eyes narrowed. “Try it in front of my men and I’ll shoot you myself.”

His mouth twitched. “I bet you would. But I’d never embarrass a lady like that, so I accept your counteroffer. I’ll spank you for what you did tonight, but only when I can do it in private.”

She gaped at him. “What? I never agreed to let you spank me!”

He chuckled. “Yes, you did. At least, that’s the way I heard it."

7.

She rested one hand on the window frame and let her gaze roam over Jake’s broad shoulders. Dear heavens, he was nice to look at. All lean muscle and sun-bronzed skin. There weren’t many men out in these parts with a body like that. She wouldn’t have minded sharing a few stolen kisses on the porch with him. Too bad he was the hired help. The boss couldn’t sleep with her employee. But a girl could dream, couldn’t she?

Almost unbidden, an image flashed into her head of Jake’s mouth on hers. Something told her a kiss from him wouldn’t be a chaste peck on the lips like other men had given her, but an act of possession that would leave her knees weak and her clinging to his shoulders.

Heat pooled between her thighs, and she squeezed her legs together to ease the ache, but it only made her more aware of the sensation. Unable to help herself, she ran her free hand down the front of her nightdress and lightly pressed her fingers to her sex. The heat became an insistent throb at her touch, one that intensified even more as Jake chose that moment to take a cup of water and pour it on his head so that it ran down his muscular chest. Before she realized what she was doing, Sadie moved her finger in slow circles, caressing herself through the thin material. She’d never touched her pussy so brazenly before, and she couldn’t believe how amazing it felt.

Lightheaded from the sensations rippling through her, she gripped the window frame, afraid she might pass out. Was that even possible from something so pleasurable? She was afraid to find out, and yet she couldn’t take her hand away. Torn, she caught her lower lip between her teeth.

Below her window, Jake stopped what he was doing to look up at her. Their eyes met, his holding hers for a long moment before he tipped his hat to her. She blushed and quickly stepped back. Had he seen what she was doing? Seen the look of bliss on her face? There was no way he could have. The windowsill was too high. Her face flamed even more hotly, and she hurried to the basin to splash water on her face. When she looked at her reflection in the mirror on the washstand, she was embarrassed to see the wantonness in her eyes.

8.

“You did what you had to do, so I can’t complain too much.” His voice was gruff, and he cleared his throat again. “But we have a hell of a task ahead of us. Moving three-thousand head of cattle isn’t going to be easy. I’ll need every good ranch hand I can find.”

“Well, you can count on one hand,” she said.

He glanced at her. “And who might that be?”

“Me.”

Jake stared at her as if she’d lost her mind, then burst out laughing. “For a minute I thought you were serious.”

“I am serious. I’m going with you.”

All trace of amusement disappeared at that announcement. “No, you aren’t. And if you keep talking like that, I really will spank you, regardless if you’re still feeling the effects of that damn cigar or not.”

Sadie opened her mouth to argue, but nothing came out. Not because she was afraid he’d give her another spanking if she provoked him. On the contrary, she was afraid of what her response might be if he did. She imagined him yanking the blanket out of her hands and dragging her across his knee. Maybe this time, he’d even bare her bottom.

She swore under her breath as an all too familiar purr started between her legs. How could she possibly be aroused at the thought of getting spanked? She must still be feeling the aftereffects of smoking that cigar. What else explained her crazy need to feel Jake’s hands on her derriere again, to feel the sting each and every smack left, to feel the heat spreading over her skin? Good heavens, she must be going insane. What kind of woman would not only put up with something like that, but yearn for it?

9.

Cupping her face in both hands, he tilted her head back until she was looking up at him.

“Why is going on the cattle drive so important to you?” he demanded in a hoarse voice.

“Because this is my ranch. I won’t ask the men who work for me to do something I’m not prepared to do myself. It’s not the way my mother would have done things, and it’s not the way I intend to do things.”

Jake studied her for a long time, then shook his head. “You’re the most stubborn, bullheaded…amazing woman I’ve ever met in my life. I have half a mind to…”

Sadie’s heart fluttered. Was he talking about spanking her again? As much as she wouldn’t have minded another dozen lashes with the strap, part of her hoped he might be talking about something else.

“To what?” she prompted when he didn’t say anything.

“This,” he growled, covering her mouth with his.

10.

With a half-smile, Jake gently spread her legs, then bent and slowly kissed his way along her thighs to the juncture of her legs. Her eyes went wide. Surely, he wasn’t going to put his mouth there…

He did.

11.

He was no wet-behind-the-ears cowpoke who’d gotten his first piece of tail. He’d bedded and bounced women from near about coast to coast—women who ran the gamut from virgins to experienced whores. Every one of them paled in comparison to Sadie—and that was after a short ride in a pile of hay. He couldn’t imagine what being with her would be like when they took their time to relax and really enjoy it. He wasn’t sure he’d survive.

12.

The moment she closed the door, he pushed her back against it and covered her mouth with his. She shoved her hands in his hair with a moan. Good heavens, had they only made love last night? It might as well have been an eternity.

“I’ve been thinking of doing that all day,” she breathed.

“Me, too.” He pulled her bottom lip into his mouth and gently sucked on it. “When I wasn’t thinking about putting you over my knee for that stunt you pulled.”

She blinked up at him, feigning innocence. “What stunt?”

“Wrangling that steer like you did.”

“Oh. That.”

“Yes. That.”

“I wanted to show the men I can pull my own weight on the cattle drive.”

He growled. “Well, it was dangerous. And if there hadn’t been anyone around, I would have reddened your gorgeous little ass on the spot.”

The image made her knees weak. “There’s no one around now.”

“There isn’t, is there?” His mouth twitched. “Good thing I brought my gloves.”

Her pulse skipped a beat. How had he known?

Giving her a grin, he spun her around to face the door and put his mouth close to her ear. “Bend over and lift up your skirt.”

Trembling, Sadie hiked up her dress. Bracing one hand on the door, she leaned forward until her bare bottom was sticking out. Having already gotten a taste of the strap yesterday, she thought the supple leather gloves would feel much the same, but she was wrong. Unlike the strap, the gloves left behind a sharp sting like that of a bee, and she let out a startled yelp. Ouch.

Jake barely let her catch her breath before delivering another slap. And another. And another. Sadie “oohed” and “aahed,” wiggling from side to side. The move made her pussy ache like crazy and she let out a whimper, hoping Jake would slip his free hand down to touch her. But he didn’t, the beast. He just continued to smack her derriere harder and harder with his gloves. She was just about to reach her hand between her legs to give herself some relief when someone knocked on the door.

13.

“Just so you know. If you didn’t have the undying loyalty of every man who worked for you before today, you do now.” His mouth curved. “That includes me.”

Her breath hitched. Sadie wasn’t sure how such simple words could make her feel so happy, but Jake’s respect meant more to her than she could have ever imagined. If she only had his love to go with it, things would be perfect.
